The extraordinary diversity of manganese chemistry allows an extensive range of applications:
Catalyst Intermediates: Manganese Oxides and manganese nitrate solutions are widely used to prepare Mn-based catalysts for chemical synthesis, in pharmacy, for example, and environmental protection to eliminate dangerous ozone, carbon monoxide and volatile organic compounds (VOC's).
Dyes & Fragrances: Manganese dioxides (MnO2HP) act as a mild and selective oxidant in converting alcohols to flavour and fragrance aldehydes and in manufacturing certain dyes.
Glass and Pigments: Glasses of deep amber and amethyst shades are prepared with Erachem Comilog's high purity manganese dioxides (MnO2HP, HPM, HPX and HPMX).
Ironically, manganese dioxide has also been used for hundreds of years to remove color from glass. Sometimes called "glass-makers' soap", MnO2 precipitates iron from the molten glass that would impart a green tint.
The thermal and light stability of manganese colorants is also a benefit to those who need both beauty and longevity in their products. In vinyl siding, where color stability is essential, manganese based pigments (MnCO3UF) are commonly used.
Oil Refineries (sulphur control): Erachem Comilog's CST removes H2S carbonyl sulphide and mercaptans from petroleum refining process feedstock.
Water Purification: Manganese, in various forms (CIR, MnO2HSA), traps dissolved sulphide, heavy metals, and some radioactive species from water.
Welding Grade MnO: Manganese carbonate, manganous oxides, and weld-grade manganese powder each contribute unique properties. For instance, manganese powder acts as an alloying agent to improve the hardness of welds. Manganous oxides, used in flux-cored electrodes for submerged-arc welding fluxes, enhance the quality and integrity of the weld.
Erachem Comilog's broad range of products for this industry includes high purity MnCO3, reduced ores (MnO welding grade), and various grades of Comilog ore.
