Glass and Pigments: Glasses of deep amber and amethyst shades are prepared with Erachem Comilog's high purity manganese dioxides (MnO2HP, HPM, HPX and HPMX).
Ironically, manganese dioxide has also been used for hundreds of years to remove color from glass. Sometimes called "glass-makers' soap", MnO2 precipitates iron from the molten glass that would impart a green tint.
The thermal and light stability of manganese colorants is also a benefit to those who need both beauty and longevity in their products. In vinyl siding, where color stability is essential, manganese based pigments (MnCO3UF) are commonly used. |
